Clarendon Elementary is a TEA “Met Standard” school that serves PPCD through 5^th grade students. Our campus houses approximately 260 students. Our motto is “Committed To A Quality Education,” and we focus on providing the best education possible to all students.

Attendance Information

One of the most important aspects of school is good attendance. Students are not able to perform up to their abilities if they are missing too much school. Parents are the catalyst for attendance at the Elementary level. Please review the following points regarding attendance at our school.

1. State law requires children from 6 to 18 to attend school. Students enrolled in PPCD, Head Start, and Pre Kindergarten are also required to attend school and follow attendance requirements.
2. Parents are required to provide the Office with written proof of absences within 3 consecutive school attendance days of their child returning to school in order for the absence to be excused. Failure to provide written proof in this time period will result in the absence being recorded as an unexcused absence from school.
3. Parents will be referred to the Court system if their child is absent from school on 10 or more days or parts of days (tardy) within a 6 month period in the same school year, or is absent on 3 or more days or parts of days (tardy) within a four week period.
4. For a student younger than 12 years of age, the parent could be charged with a criminal offense based on the student’s failure to attend school.
5. To receive credit for the school year, Elementary students must attend 90% of the days the class is offered.
6. If a student is absent for 3 or more consecutive school days because of a personal illness, parents must provide a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition which caused the extended absence from school.
7. If a student develops a questionable pattern of absences the Principal will require a statement from your doctor or health clinic to verify the illness or condition that caused the absence from school. If this documentation is not provided, the absences will be recorded as unexcused.
